Agnes Margaret Martire - Ray, 97, of Jamesville, NY, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at home. Agnes was born on February 12, 1928, in Jamaica, New York City, NY. She lived for many years in Manhasset, NY and Annapolis, MD. She graduated from St. Gerard's Elementary School and the Mary Louis Academy both in Jamaica, NY.
Agnes raised her six children in a wonderfully warm and loving home. She had many life-long friends and was known for her cooking, especially Italian. She enjoyed tending her flowers, and loved her many dogs and cats. She relished her time with family and friends and enjoyed meeting new people – especially babies. Known as Nana, she was deeply loved by her grand and great grandchildren and cherished her time with them. While being a New York City native, she loved the farms and countryside of Upstate New York and New England. In 2008, after the passing of her husband, she moved to Fayetteville, NY to be closer to family. Wherever she lived, Agnes always made everyone feel welcome. "What can I get for you?" was a part of her greeting to everyone.
Agnes was very dedicated to her faith and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Manhasset, NY, Holy Family Church in Davidsonville, MD, and Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Kenneth Mallory Ray in 2005; parents, Austin and Margaret Martire; sister, Katherine Fowler; and brothers, Anthony A. Martire and John Martire.
She is survived by three daughters, Margaret (Ray) Hill of Norfolk, VA, Kathleen A. Vogeler (William) of Patterson, NY and Kimberly A. Salek (Michael) of Forest Hills, NY; three sons, Kenneth M. Ray of Harrisonburg, VA, Paul A. Ray (Leslie) of Chittenango, NY and Thomas F. Ray (Nora) of Novato, CA; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Agnes's family expresses their lasting, deep gratitude to the staff of the Borer Memory Life Community at The Nottingham in Jamesville, and the staff of Help and Hugs of Central New York for their compassionate and loving care over the past seven years.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Salt Springs St., Fayetteville, NY. The funeral Mass will follow the calling hour. Burial will be in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.
