Agustin "Gus" Alcanar, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, in Aurora, Illinois, at the age of 72. Born on August 2, 1952, in the Philippines, Gus was a beacon of joy and generosity to all who knew him.
Gus is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Teresita Alcanar, and their children, Alvin Alcanar (with grandchildren McKenzie and Kyra), Arlene Lim (with her husband Sherwin and their children Alianna and Aaron), and Airrha Randall (with her husband Brenden and their two dogs, Kai and Luna). He was a devoted family man, a role he cherished above all else.
He was the heart of a large and vibrant family, including his siblings Nenita Del Rosario, Julieta Alcanar, Jose Rizal Alcanar, and Cesar Alcanar. Gus was predeceased by his brothers Noli, Ronnie, Ranulfo, Rogelio, and Roberto Alcanar. Each family member felt his love and care in a unique way, as he always knew how to make each person feel special.
Gus was known for his exceptional culinary skills, often found cooking up a storm in the kitchen, eager to feed anyone who walked through his door. His garden was a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit, flourishing under his attentive care. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching YouTube videos that piqued his interest or engaged his sense of humor.
His ability to socialize and make jokes was unmatched, and he could often be found at the center of laughter and conversation. Gus also had a penchant for the excitement of playing roulette, a pastime that brought him much enjoyment.
Above all, Gus was a man who loved to help others in any way he could. Whether it was fixing something that was broken, offering a listening ear, or simply playing with his dogs, his selfless nature was evident. He was a jack of all trades, and his thoughtful and generous spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
