G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Minister Aimee E. Collins Mathis who entered into rest November 8, 2025.

Minister Mathis, a native of Edgefield, South Carolina, was an integral and active part of the communities and churches across multiple states and Washington, D. C. She served in numerous capacities throughout her life - as a dedicated business owner, having operated a health food store in Edgefield, SC; as an author of a beloved weekly column entitled "Reminiscing" in a local newspaper; and as a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in North Augusta.

In addition to her many accomplishments, Minister Mathis founded her own church and extended her ministry through radio broadcasts in Washington, D. C., where she passionately preached and taught the Word of God. Affectionately known as the "Mother of Peace", she touched countless lives with her message of faith, compassion and love.

Minister Mathis also collaborated closely with local historians in the preservation and upkeep of the Bettis Academy campus, an institution she proudly attended and from which she graduated.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Mathis and two grandchildren, Taren Smith and Robin Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Westendorp of The Netherlands; her brother, William Collins of Denmark, SC; three grandchildren, Kenneth Washington, Marc (Doretha) Washington and Tiffane (Rivaldo) Muniz; ten great-grandchildren all of Prince George's County, Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held.

Professional Care has been entrusted to G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary-Edgefield.
