Akebe Parrish Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory Oxon Hill on Feb. 13, 2026.
O

n Sunday, February 1, 2026, God embraced his son, Akebe Reza Parrish, into eternal life. He was born on December 15, 1970, to Pearl Parrish, and the late Alvin Parrish Sr. He is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Parrish Sr. Akebe was a godly man of integrity, one who exhibited Christ-like behaviors in his life each and every day. He was a selfless, hard-working, passionate, benevolent, humble, caring, and loving father and friend to those around him. He was the glue that held the family together and never sought praise. He sacrificed many things for other people, constantly putting others' needs and wants above his own. He did so joyfully, knowing truly his reward was in heaven. Akebe, for most of his life, worked tirelessly at two full-time jobs to care for his wife and children-at one point, it was three-, and despite this fact he did what he could to spend quality time with those he loved. Quality time was always important to Akebe, and it was usually the best gift he could receive. He planned dates, trips, outings, and spur-of-the-moment activities as ways to build relationships with his loved ones. He also imparted wisdom and knowledge, both explicitly and implicitly, to those he treated as his own. Akebe gave cheerfully and constantly, whether that be time, money, or resources, he gave so much for things or people he cared about. During his time here on this side of eternity, he stored up many treasures in heaven, treasures that will never pass away. Truly his reward is great in heaven, and it is greater and better than anything that Earth can offer. He had some things he loved besides the people around him. Attending the renaissance faire in Manheim, PA, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys on football Sundays, and, most of all, cruises. It seemed like every year there was a cruise he boarded, no matter if it was through the MSC or Royal Caribbean cruise lines, with someone or by himself. He loved the boats and the destinations, exploring places like the Bahamas and the DR. Usually that exploration involved a well-deserved nap in a cabana on the beach by the "blue water". He always said that he loved the blue water, but not enough to get in it. Akebe leaves the following loved ones to cherish his memories and carry on the legacy he left: his mother, Pearl Parrish; wife, Afrolin Parrish; his brothers, Alvin Parrish Jr and Anton Parrish; his loving children, Melvin Amos, Andrew Parrish, Aonika Parrish, and April Parrish; his best friend, Pastor Mike Taylor; and his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends he loved so dearly. Funeral service arrangements pending.
