Alan MacDonald Balch was born June 18, 1931, in Greeley, Colorado.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mack and Mildred Balch, his sisters Edith Brown and Maxine Benson and his brothers Lee, Tom, and John. He is survived by his sister Frances McKay of Greeley, six nephews and one niece. Great and great-great nephews and nieces also survive.
Alan served in the U.S Air Force for four years during the Korean War. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees in elementary education from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, now the University of Northern Colorado.
Alan moved to Salinas in 1957 and taught in the Salinas City Elementary School District for 34 years before retiring. After retirement he worked for the Salinas Peppers Baseball team for three years, while they were in Salinas.
Alan was a life member and past president of the Monterey County Sheriff's Posse. He was also a member of the Monterey County Horsemen's Association and the American Legion Post 31.
Over the years Alan did volunteer work with the YMCA and was asked to start a Saturday morning athletic program for 4th grade boys. He also volunteered with Insight Unlimited, Adult Literacy, Big Brother Program, Alliance on Aging, Suicide Prevention and Meals on Wheels.
Alan was an active member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church.
Friends are invited to a Memorial Service scheduled for Saturday, October 28th 2023 at 11:30am at the Monterey County Sheriff's Posse Grounds, 395 Natividad Road, Salinas, Ca. 93906.
