Alan J. Berndt

Alan J. Berndt, 71 of Curtice, OH died unexpectedly Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Mercy- St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, OH. He was born February 10, 1954 in Fremont, OH to the late William and Anna Belle (Mehling) Berndt. Alan retired in 2024 as a Steel Hauler Truck Driver working for Steel Pro out of Michigan. Al was a hard worker and loved hauling steel. He enjoyed anything to do with Peterbilt trucks, Harley's, and living in the moment. Being retired near Lake Erie was something he was just getting used to. Al enjoyed the Cooley Canal Yacht Club and spending much time there meeting many new people. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. On May 26, 1995 he married the former Kelly Van Ness, and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly of Oak Harbor, OH; children: William Berndt and Rochelle Berndt both of Fremont, OH and Cody (Makenna) Berndt of Holland, OH; 5 grandchildren: Bryson and Ashern, Jace and Jordan, and Lily; brothers Dennis (Karen) Schiets of Oak Harbor, OH and Michael Schiets of Fremont, OH; and sister Candy Darr of Oak Harbor. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in- law Jeffery Darr, sister-in-law Beverly Schiets, and 4 month-old grandson William Berndt.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 2-7:30pm, with the family present from 2-4 & 6-7:30pm at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor Chapel. A Service by the Cooley Canal Yacht Club will begin at 7:30pm Tuesday evening. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at the Funeral Home with Rev. Zachary Brown Officiating. Burial will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial Contributions may be given to Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home, 301 N.
