KERNERSVILLE - Alan “Jeffrey” Blackburn, 65, of Kernersville, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, after battling glioblastoma for over a year. He was born to Albert Dee Blackburn and Mary Combs Blackburn on April 29, 1960, in Forsyth County. He came to know Christ on March 28, 1984, and was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown. He married Lisa Holland Blackburn on May 18, 1985.
Jeffrey was enthusiastic about many things. He was a skilled basketball player for many years, and he enjoyed pursuing celebrity autographs. He also spent countless hours in the outdoors, from childhood through his adult years, until declining health made it no longer possible. Hunting, fishing, shark tooth collecting, metal detecting for Civil War relics -- he enjoyed life far too much to be sitting still for too long.
His vocation was the family business at Blackburn Insurance. He and his brother Joey faithfully continued the legacy of their father and have passed down to the next generation the same principles of honesty, integrity, and kindness. Jeffrey always did what was best for his clients, whether he benefited or not.
Somehow, he had the capacity to do all these things well, enjoy them to the fullest, and never leave his family feeling neglected. His family was the great love of his life. He loved his wife, and their marriage of 40 years was marked by tenderness, laughter, and constant affection. His children delight to honor him and will be forever grateful for the privilege of having had such a father. His grandchildren will sadly not know the joy of his presence in their lives as they grow. This family will never be the same without him but will spend the rest of our lives cherishing his memory.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; daughter, Stephanie Blackburn Lay (husband Jessie); son, Rex Blackburn (wife Michelle); grandchildren, Jake Lay, Wyatt Lay, Owen Blackburn, R.T. Blackburn, and William Blackburn; mother, Mary Blackburn; brother, Joey Blackburn (wife Connie); along with nieces and nephews.
Jeffrey is preceded in death by his father, A. D. Blackburn, and brother, David Blackburn (survived by wife, Cindi).
Jeffrey's wife Lisa would like to offer her heartfelt thanks to the Skilled Nursing staff at Brookridge Life Plan Community and the hospice team at Trellis Supportive Care. Finally, words fail to express the family's gratitude to Stephanie, whose loving care and attention to her father were irreplaceable.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Roberson and Rex Blackburn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the church. There will be a private burial in the family cemetery at the Blackburn homeplace at a later date.
Memorials may be made to The Glioblastoma Research Organization at 2045 Biscayne Blvd #189 Miami, FL 33137 www.gbmresearch.org/donate
