Alan Keith Cutler of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, formerly of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away on November 9th, 2025, after a brief illness, at the age of 85.
Born in Taylorville, Illinois, on June 1st, 1940, Keith lived a full life. An Eagle Scout in his youth, he attended the University of Illinois after graduating from Taylorville High School in 1958. There, he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Mae Walters Cutler, and, upon graduating with a degree in Engineering, he and Jackie were married on June 29th, 1963. They settled in Chicago, Illinois, where Keith worked for Republic Steel and continued his studies, receiving his MBA from Loyola University.
In 1966, their daughter Linda was born, and in 1970, a second daughter, Nancy, followed. Working as Plant Manager and Sales Manager, Keith and the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, New Jersey, and later, Duncanville, Texas. The family returned to their roots and settled in Glen Carbon, Illinois, in 1977. Keith attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, where he earned his second master's degree in Computer Science. In 1990, after several years, Keith purchased the patents for large smelting furnaces used to separate precious metals and opened "Cutler Equipment, Inc." He sold these smelters to many gold and silver mines throughout North, Central, and South America. He travelled to installation sites in Mexico, Honduras, Bolivia, and Argentina, among others.
Besides his family, Keith loved the game of golf. Oak Brook Golf Club was his home course for many years, and where he perfected his swing, winning a few competitions. He had his first (of 3!) holes-in-one over his lifetime at Oak Brook, and for twenty years, Keith was the secretary of the Wednesday night league. After he and Jackie retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Keith served as secretary of the long-standing "Tee Bones" league for 12 years. He also became an "Ageless Wonder" twice, shooting his age at 76 and again at 80. Keith continued playing through May of this year, sinking a 50-foot putt to prove that at 85, he still had it.
Keith was devoted to Jackie and his daughters. Although somewhat reserved, he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed the laughter-filled companionship of family and friends. Travelling to Europe, taking cruises, and family Christmases in Maui were among his favorite vacations.
An avid sports fan, he always loved watching college and professional football, basketball, and the PGA. He was a loyal Illini fan. Keith also loved to relax by reading, especially science fiction, and frequented the libraries wherever he lived.
Keith was extremely proud of his daughter Nancy's legal career in Dallas, especially when she became a criminal judge in 2015. He watched many of her proceedings via livestream and enjoyed their discussions about the trials he watched and the law.
It is his Grandson, Rhett Mulder, who was the apple of his eye and with whom he loved to play golf. He loved watching Rhett's lacrosse games via livestream and talking with him every week. Known for his infinite patience and calm presence, Keith will be missed by all.
A man of faith, he regularly attended Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church and served as head of the Sunday School Faith and Fellowship class for 2 years.
Keith is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Cutler, daughter Nancy Cutler Mulder, his grandson, Rhett Mulder, brother James Cutler, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his daughter, Linda Kay Cutler, his sister Doris Cutler Fisher, his parents Margaret McTaggart Cutler and Elmer Cutler, his brother-in-law Gerald R. Walters, and sister-in-law Jane Garwood Cutler.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2025, at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, 700 Balearic Road, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909, with a Celebration of Life to be held at Sunset Hills cemetery chapel, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, IL, 62034 in the spring of 2026.
