Alan Richard Dulong, 85, of East Freetown passed away on May 4, 2025.
Born in Fairhaven, he was the son of the late Laurent Z. and Yvonne D. (Levesque) Dulong and the brother of the late Paul R. Dulong.
Alan grew up in Fairhaven but lived most of his life with his adored wife Carol P. (Reynolds) Dulong who preceded him in passing after 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughters Brenda Turner of East Freetown and Susan Dulong Langley of Milford, MA; grandchildren Holly (Langley) Lipson, Kristin York, Adam York, and Alexis Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
Alan was formerly employed by Stillwater Fasteners where he worked as a machinist for many years before retirement. Retirement brought time for Alan to enjoy exploring the East coast with Carol and their beloved cats in their camper.
Alan was born to older parents and spent his youth working as a commercial fisherman in order to support them. Although he missed the beginning and end of each school year due to the fishing season, he was resilient in earning his diploma. Alan served in the U.S. Army. There, he was able to take advantage of many educational resources, indulging in his love for knowledge. At home, he further took advantage of veteran opportunities by earning a certificate through Kinyon-Campbell Business School. Alan persisted in learning three new things each day throughout his life. He ultimately worked at Stillwater to be close to his girls as it was halfway between home and their schools where he enthusiastically supported them in many activities.
Alan maintained his spirit of caregiving throughout his life. He was always the first to volunteer his time and talents to individuals, organizations, and events, including his time with the Southeastern Amateur Radio Association where he enjoyed many meetings and attending their informal Sunday morning "ragchews." Alan loved his pets, gardening, music, and using the internet to learn even more. Most of all, he loved his family. He was the biggest supporter of his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for them, and he delighted in their happiness and successes. He always encouraged them to call any time and would always answer those calls with a booming, "Hello there, kid! Good to hear your voice!" They are so thankful they had him in their corner for so many years and that he is now reunited with his Carol.
Alan's funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family would appreciate acts of kindness to honor Alan's memory.
