Alan Wayne Michalski

Alan Wayne Michalski, 87, of North Strabane Township, died Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Canonsburg Hospital. Alan was born August 12, 1938, in Canonsburg, PA, a son of the late Stanley and Jenny Michalski. He grew up in Midland, PA. He was a graduate of Chartiers Houston High School Class of 1956. Alan furthered his education by graduating from Washington & Jefferson College in 1960. On December 25, 1960, he married Iris Lorraine (Lori) Grohal, who survives. Alan was employed as a teacher in the Canon McMillan School District from 1961 thru 1998. Alan was also in the Army Reserves from 1960 thru 1990. He retired from the Army with the rank of Colonel. Alan's true love in life, aside from his wife, was singing - and boy could he sing! He was the choir director at Sacred Heart of Jesus Polish National Catholic Church in Canonsburg for roughly 35 years. His tenor voice was thought to be so good that he was asked to sing at many, many weddings. And he never disappointed. However, if you never got to hear his beautiful voice at a wedding, you just needed to show up wherever he was - chances were pretty good that he would break into song right there! Alan also enjoyed vacationing at the beach with his extended family. His favorite vacation spots were Ocean City, MD and Myrtle Beach, SC. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife to Las Vegas where they not only enjoyed all that the city had to offer, but he also got a chance to spend time with relatives that lived in the area. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lori, are; son Alan Jr. (Skip) Michalski (wife Sally); daughter; Susan Sarver; grandchildren, D.J. Michalski (Emily), Dylan Sarver (fiancee Madison Walbrown) and Kira Sarver (Dakota Wilkinson); also surviving are a sister, Sheila Grykowski along with multiple nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
