I went skiing with Al several times...he was an animal. I will never forget the time we were skiing and he and a few others were waiting for my group to catch up to them. As I was approaching him and the group I evidently hit a patch of ice and couldn´t stop. I yelled to Al "I´m going to hit you and I sure did. We both fell down and slid down a hill about 20 feet. I ended up bending one of his ski pole tips. During these last few years we always had a good laugh about it. Al was a good friend, compassionate about life, and he made the world a better place for the people who knew him.

My first contact with Allan when he just started at the County Board ,in 1977,as a substitute and he made quite an impression on me.He was a very industrious yet sensitive to the needs of the individuals we served.I kept in contact with him recently and he was just returning from a worldwide adventure.Good thoughts to his family.

Music man, playing a 12 string guitar and in command of music history and a diverse internal song catalog. Ski bum, flying down expert slopes from St Anton to Mammoth to your second home in Vail. Craftsman, lending your considerable handyman skills to friends and family. Social worker, your entire work life was dedicated to helping others. You loved the metroparks where you rode your bike, until a horrendous accident claimed that hobby from you. Copper mountain where you suffered a broken pelvis, and lay in the snow shooing the person who hit you down the mountain so they wouldn´t get in trouble. Killimanjaro where you rose above injury on a hike for the ages. Bourbon and cigars with your ski brothers. Fishing for walleye on a cold lake. Your life held many secrets, with parts of you compartmentalized such that no one knew all of you. Great love for life, for your family, for your friends, for your casework. You have a left a mark on this world, and it´s a sadder place without you. Godspeed to the loving arms of your parents, waiting in heaven for you.
