Alan Nelson Obituary

While surrounded by his loving family, Alan L. Nelson, 79, saddled up for his ride through Heaven’s pastures to embark on his eternal fishing trip on November 4, 2025.

Born on September 2, 1946, Alan was the first child of Gerald L. Nelson and Joann Madsen. He grew up admiring cowboys like his grandpa Lloyd Lowry Nelson, who taught him the values of loyalty, courage, and strength that guided him throughout his life. He cherished many memories

of his childhood, including many hunting and fishing trips, and riding horses. When Alan was 16 months old, his first little sister Jennae was born. Jennae and Alan had a close relationship growing up together. Later joined Teona, and then Lynn; all three siblings looked up to their oldest sibling, Alan. As a young boy, Alan learned his carpentry skills from his father Gerald and grandfather Lloyd and continued to excel in the profession. He helped build many homes in Cache Valley and buildings at Utah State University. The Nelson family shared a deep and lasting bond, often gathering to make cherished memories— a tradition that continues to this day.

Alan joined the United States Army in 1966, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam era. He was assigned to the infantry and later served as a vehicle driver, where his steady hands and dependable nature earned the respect of those he served with. Alan carried the discipline, teamwork, and quiet strength he learned in the military throughout his life. Alan married his high school sweetheart Eva Elisabeth Ingold on March 31, 1967, in the Logan Temple. Alan and Eva moved to Washington, where he worked as a mechanic on the first 747 for Boeing. In 1969, Alan proudly became a father to his first child, Michael Lowry. In 1972, his heart grew even fuller with the arrival of his baby girl, Eva Marie. After returning home to Logan in 1971, he worked for the Logan City Police Department for 23 years; climbing the ranks and eventually becoming the Chief of Police. During his time with the Police Department, he graduated from the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, Virginia and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement from Weber State University. After his retirement from Logan City, he served as Deputy Fire Marshal for Utah State University where he worked for 14 years. After fully retiring, he enjoyed time making memories with family and friends and talking about the good old days with the boys at the coffee shop. He enjoyed fly fishing, tying flies, gunsmithing, hunting, camping, and sitting by a good campfire. Many great memories were made while cowboy action shooting with Nicholas, Robert, and the Cache Valley Vaqueros. He taught his children and grandchildren more about life, while sitting on a dock, boat, or around a campfire, than most folks learn in a lifetime – lessons about patience, hard work, respect, and doing the right thing when nobody is looking.

Alan is survived by his wife, Eva; his children, Michael Lowry (LaDonna) Nelson and Eva Marie (Robert) Stephens; his six grandchildren, Alexis Rose Stephens, Cody Alan Nelson, Nicholas Robert Stephens, Shayna Rochele Nelson, Emily Grace Stephens, and Sophia Marie Stephens; and his three siblings Jennae (Ray) Fallows, Teona (Richard) Jensen, G. Lynn (Laurie) Nelson. Alan had many nieces, nephews, and close friends, who will all miss him dearly.

We will see you at Henry’s Lake Pop.

Alan’s funeral service will take place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at White Pine Funeral Services (753 S 100 E Logan, Utah). Visitations will be held at White Pine Funeral Services on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, and on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:45 prior to the service.
