Alan Palmer Obituary

Alan Clyde Palmer (Hot Rod Alan), 73, of Idaho Falls, passed away November 22, 2025, at his daughter's home, surrounded by his family. He was under the care of Brio Home Health and Hospice and his loving daughters.

Alan was born March 4, 1952, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Clyde G. Palmer and Phyllis Cole Palmer. He grew up in Idaho Falls where he attended Longfellow Elementary School, O.E. Bell Junior High and graduated from Idaho Falls High School. Alan also attended Idaho State University.

On April 19, 1974, he married Anita Garner. They were blessed with two daughters, Kimberley and Jennifer. Alan and Anita were later divorced.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Alan enjoyed racing, collecting cars, riding Harleys, and the Chicago Bears.

Alan was always a hard worker. He retired from the INL where he worked for 42 years. While there, he made several life long friends. Alan was always the life of the party. He could light up any room with his infectious laugh and amazing smile. He had a true passion for cars and owned several over the years, but his favorites by far were his Oldsmobile 442s and his Corvettes. He always said life was too short to drive boring cars, and every car he owned had a story- one he was proud to be the author of. He spent countless hours polishing, restoring, and perfecting his vehicles, and he attended many car shows often taking home awards for having the best shine.

As much as he loved his cars, he loved his family even more. He had an endless, unmistakable love for his girls, and he lit up around his grandkids, whether he was teaching them how to wash their cars, or simply being there when they needed him. One of his favorite traditions was making each of his grandchildren a birthday cake- 32 years of pouring love, pride, and care into every celebration. His love of automobiles was a huge part of who he was, but it was his legacy of shared moments, laughter, and memories he created with those he loved that will be cherished most.

Alan is survived by his daughters, Kimberley (Johnny) Battleson-Elliott of Boise, ID, and Jennifer (Joseph) Boyd of Idaho Falls, ID; brother, Bradley (Connie) Palmer of Idaho Falls, ID; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde G. Palmer and Phyllis Palmer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior. Both visitations will be held at Wood Funeral Home East Side.
