Alan Lewis Rainey, 67, of Tyler, Texas, passed away on December 31, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and servant, Alan will be remembered for his warm heart and his love for service to family, friends, and community.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Alan grew up in the Los Angeles area and graduated from Inglewood High School. In 1978, Alan married the love of his life, Janet, with whom he raised sons Matthew and Carter. Alan began a career in law enforcement with the Orange County, California Sheriff's Office before joining the Inglewood Police Department. After retiring from law enforcement, Alan moved to Texas, where he worked in real estate and banking for over 23 years.
Alan was known by many for his servant's heart, often quietly undertaking acts of kindness for family, friends, and strangers. He volunteered with the Sunrise Optimist Club of Wichita Falls and with the Boy Scouts of America, including serving as Council Commissioner for the Northwest Texas Council. Alan was a Vigil Honor member of Wichita Lodge 35 of the Order of the Arrow and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Northwest Texas Council. Alan was resolute in his faith, serving as an Elder and Deacon in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and actively volunteered with multiple churches and faith-based organizations.
Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Janet Rainey; his sons, Matthew Rainey and Carter Rainey (fiancée Marirose); brother, Curtis Glass; brother-in-law, Bob Gould (Cia); sisters-in-law, Carole Glass and Lisa Harper; nieces and nephews, Robert Gould Jr. (Becky), Shannon Lively (Demus), Brandon Gould (Jackie), Sarah Stotts (Andrew), Rebeccah Collingsworth (Rob), Hannah Gooding (Will), Amber Hannsz (Dustin), Andrea Glass, Shannon Hakes (Steve), Sarah Adams (Mark), and Tatiana Chapple; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Rainey and Laura Lavonne Dunbar; mother-in-law, Treva Gould Rainey; Mother of the Heart, Ruth Hiersemann; brother, Bob Glass (Carole); and brother-in-law, Gary Gould (Lisa).
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Tyler on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
