Alan Riepe Schaffer, 78, of Metropolis, passed away at 2:49 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his family.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at St. John's Cemetery on Waldo Church Road with the Rev. David Deem officiating.
Alan was a CPA for 53 years and had been a teacher at Shawnee Community College and West Kentucky Community and Technical College. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Metropolis and was an avid outdoorsman.
Alan is survived by his wife of 33 years, Denise (Jennings) Schaffer; stepsons, Andrew Inman and wife Jane, and Lukus Inman and wife Leah; grandchildren, Hannah Inman, Evan Inman, and Emma Inman; sister, Joan Schmidt and husband Clyde; several nieces and nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin John and Frances Lee (Riepe) Schaffer; grandparents, John Henry and Amelia (Moller) Schaffer and Herman Casper and Clara Anna Maria (Schmidt) Riepe; brother, James Irvin "Jimmy" Schaffer.
Memorials may be made in Alan's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
