He was our good bishop in the 17th North Ward when my husband and I were first married. Such a good man. I remember the genuine love he exhibited to each member of this ward, which had many challenges. Once, a fellow who was struggling with mental health, went up to the pulpit, wielding what appeared to be cap guns. I remember Bishop Schulz, gently, lovingly whispering in his ear, walking him down from the pulpit, helping him and giving him the dignity that he deserved as a child of God. It left an impression I´ll never forget.

The Family of Blair Stephens remembered Alan fondly for keeping teaching interesting! They were brothers to the last and taught some very spicy kids! As my Dad always said, "if you can save ONE kid by teaching them, your whole career is worth it!" And they did!
Alan personified, "it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be NICE!"

Hereby I would like to extend best regards to all the friends and loved ones of Mr. Schulz. I met him and his wife Ruth in a gym in Sandakan, Malaysia in 2006 when they respectfully tried to interest me in the mormon religion and invited me for diner and a tour through Sandakan.
All the best,

Our friendship with Alan and Ruth began in 1972 when we were newlyweds in 17th North Ward in Salt Lake Stake. Alan was in the bishopric and Ruth was a Relief Society leader. We moved away, and did not see them for decades, but we met up again a few years ago at Summit Vista, where we became good friends once again, and did many fun adventures together, including some traveling. His loss is immense to us and many others, as we continued to interact regularly since we moved south. We have great memories and have learned so much from our friendships. We pray that all the family will feel much comfort in the Spirit as you deal with this unexpected loss of a great man and a great leader.
