Albert "Dell" Barsness

Albert "Dell" Barsness, age 84, of Northfield, Minnesota, passed away on December 20, 2025, at Northfield Hospital.
Dell was born on February 25, 1941, in Starbuck, Minnesota, to Olger M. and Helen P. Barsness. He attended school in Elk River, Minnesota, and graduated from Elk River High School in 1959. Dell continued his education at the University of Minnesota, graduating from the College of Pharmacy in 1964, and was a member of the Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity.
Dell spent his professional career as a pharmacist serving communities in Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, and Buffalo, Minnesota. He took great pride in his work and especially valued the relationships he built with colleagues, patients, and community members throughout his career. Dell was known for his devotion to his wife Betty and his unique and dry sense of humor.
Dell married Betty Jurgens on June 14, 1975. During their fifty year marriage, they shared a life rich in outdoor adventure and companionship. Their interests included skiing, traveling, biking, hiking, birding, reading, and fishing. In retirement, they moved to their much-loved home on Leech Lake near Walker, Minnesota, where they spent many happy years enjoying nature and time together.
Dell is survived by his wife, Betty of Northfield, sisters-in-law Sharon (Thomas) Barsness, Helen (Gordon) Hippen, and Shirley (Leon) Jurgens, brother-in-law Tim (Donna) Jurgens, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins from both families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Arnold and Angeline Jurgens, his brother, Thomas Barsness, his sisters, Janice Miller Bang and Bernice Miller Morrison, brothers-in-law Leon Jurgens and Gordon Hippen, and sister-in-law Mary Louise Jurgens.
A memorial service will be held on February 6 at 2:00 p.m. at Benedictine Living Community in Northfield, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in the form of cards sent to Betty at Benedictine Living Community, Apt. 123, 2030 North Avenue, Northfield, MN 55057.
