Albert Boguszewski, a longtime resident of Fanwood, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025. He was 90 years old.
Al was born in Hanover Green, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Hanover High School as his class president and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Penn State University. Al served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. where he worked in a radioisotope lab. He later earned master's degrees from Rutgers University and the University of the South (Sewanee). Al had fond memories of his time at the University of the South and made many great friendships throughout the four summers he spent there with his family.
Al enjoyed golf, singing, playing his ukulele, and Penn State football. He devoted much of his life to education, primarily teaching science in the Plainfield Public School District. Al taught at Hubbard School and later at Plainfield High School, retiring in 1989 after a fulfilling career. He had a lengthy retirement that included 26 cruises with his wife, Helen. Al and Helen met in Wildwood in the 50's. They returned to the shore annually to spend quality time with family in the place they loved most.
Al was predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen; and his siblings, Donald, Ralph, and Phyllis. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Dolan and her husband, Ernie Fox; and Mary Salsa and her husband, Dominic; along with his three granddaughters, Rachel, Sarah, and Sofia, who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, on Wednesday, January 15th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew the Apostle RC Church, Westfield Avenue, Scotch Plains, on Thursday, January 16th, at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
