Albert was born on January 5, 1939, to Albert and Irene (Prieb) Buchholz. Albert was the eighth of twelve siblings. He attended school in Wolverton, MN, and Christine, ND, and was quite a gifted athlete and basketball player. After attending school, he started farming on his relative’s farm, Uncle Carl Hansen and Aunt Esther Hansen. After his uncle’s untimely death, Albert took over the farming operations and during that time, he enlisted in the United States National Guard in 1959, until his honorable discharge in 1965.

In 1968, Albert was united in marriage to the love of his life, Eileen Brenden. Later Eileen was diagnosed with M.S. With the news of this diagnosis, Albert gave her loving care and support until she later passed away in a nursing home in 1992.

Albert was an avid farmer and had a deep love and appreciation for farming and his dedication to his farm land was evident as he worked from dawn until dusk. He took immense pride in his large garden and beautiful flower beds. He planted many fields of his famous potatoes that were appreciated by many in the area. He loved spending time with his family, relatives, and many friends and was always eager to host and entertain during the holidays.

Albert considered the time spent with family and friends among his greatest joys, he will be greatly missed by his siblings, Loren Buchholz, Louie (Sharon) Buchholz, Faye Groen, and Cheryl (Ronald) Affield; sister-in-law, Jane Buchholz; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eileen; parents, Albert and Irene Buchholz; siblings, Leo (Elaine) Buchholz, Margie Long, Glen Buchholz, Earl (Lois) Buchholz, Dolly (Tom) Williams, Jean Swenson, and Peter Buchholz; and sister-in-law, Mary Buchholz.

The family of Albert Buchholz would like to extended a very special ‘Thank You’ to all the staff at St. Catherine’s Living Center, Hospice of the Red River Valley, the staff at Essentia Clinic, and Sanford Hospital.
