Albert Domingo Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 29, 2024.
Close your eyes. Imagine the most beautiful and pure sound. What do you hear? Do you hear the morning songs of chirping birds? The rustling waves of the majestic seas? The sound of your loved one's laughter? Or perhaps it's the first or last note of a masterful classical composition.
Without a doubt, the most beloved sound for Dr. Albert Tunji Domingo was the miraculous cry of a precious human being upon entering this world as a newborn baby. Dr. Domingo considered himself to be abundantly blessed to have had the great honor of shepherding over 50,000 babies from conception through delivery and bearing witness to the sanctity of life and glory of God through his service as an OB/GYN and Internist for more than 40 years. His craft was not only his career, but it was also his passion, joy, hobby, and the essence of who he was as a human being. It is impossible to quantify how much Dr. Domingo loved providing exceptional patient care and counsel to his community. However, his love of family paralleled that of his life's work.
As the old adage goes, behind every successful man is a strong, wise, and hard-working woman and Dr. Domingo would be the first to tell you that held true for him. Dr. Domingo is survived by the love of his life and greatest partner of nearly 52 years, Rosie Mae Domingo. They met at a party in Providence, Rhode Island during his Spring Break in 1973 while he was an undergraduate student at Central State University. Those who knew him could attest to his love of dancing, and they danced the night away as they fell in love on that fateful night. From that moment on, Rosie became his North Star, second only to The Almighty Father. Words cannot express his love, appreciation, and awe of Rosie's character, mindset, beauty, and strength. Together, they formed an impenetrable partnership that served as the foundation of Dr. Domingo's impactful life's work.
Dr. Domingo later earned his Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry from Central State University (1975), Master of Science in biological sciences from Wright State University (1976) and he completed his research fellowship at Brown University (1976). He earned his medical degree from Howard University (1982). From 1982 to 1985, Dr. Domingo completed his Internal Medicine residency at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and in 1989, he completed an OB/GYN residency at Aultman Hospital.
The immediate fruits of their union are their surviving six daughters: Jessica (North Canton), Stephanie (Brooklyn), Angela (Columbus), Miranda (Chicago), Ebony (Columbus), Brandi (DC), and two grandchildren: Aminah and Ibrahim (Columbus). Dr. Domingo's surviving cousins include Marjory (Morbach), Craig (Burbach), Alex (Giessen), Stuart (Giessen), Cherish (Frankfurt), Muyiwa Domingo (Italy), Olufunke Domingo (Canada), Dehinde Domingo (US), and other extended family members in Nigeria including Olabode Thomas, Kayode Bishopton, Sola Ganiyat Adams, Adeoye Agunlejika, Oyinade Okunmuyide, Folasade Adebajo, Yeside Domingo, Gboyega Agunlejika, and Ibijoke Domingo. Dr. Domingo is preceded in death by father, Judge Albert O. Domingo, mother, Stella Onibuwe (Odogwu), sister, Cynthia, and brother, James.
Dr. Domingo leaves behind a loving family who cherished him dearly. His family, a reflection of his love and devotion, will miss him deeply, but are comforted by the indelible mark he has left on their hearts and Stark county and beyond.
Dr. Domingo was not just a physician but a pillar of the community, he transformed the former Army Reserve armory in 2011 into a one-stop women's health center that became a cornerstone of health in the Canton area. His contributions to medicine were widely recognized, earning him numerous awards, including "Attending of the Year" and "Surgeon of the Year" at Aultman Hospital, the prestigious "Platinum Award" from Mercy Medical Center, and the Hero Award from the Commission on Minority Health, State of Ohio. He was humbled to be inducted into the Society of Saint Luke in 2012.
Dr. Domingo's dedication to his patients was unmatched. He was known for his gentle approach, his unwavering patience, and his ability to make everyone he treated feel seen and valued. His compassionate care left a lasting impact on the many lives he touched as he guided countless families through the joys and challenges of childbirth and beyond. His legacy is not only in the lives he saved and the families he helped build, but it also includes the lasting contributions he made to the medical community through his teaching and mentorship.
Born in London, England on January 29, 1952, and baptized in the Roman Catholic tradition, Dr. Domingo's faith was a cornerstone of his life. Dr. Domingo attended a Catholic primary school in Nigeria and was an altar boy in his formative years. He later attended Catholic boarding school in London, England before coming to the United States to further his education. Dr. Domingo was a devoted member of St. Paul's Church, where he found strength and solace. His commitment to service was also evident in his involvement with various professional organizations, including his roles as Director of the Mercy Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic and President Elect of the Mercy Medical Center Medical Staff.
To the many lives he touched, Dr. Domingo was more than a physician; he was a devoted husband, patient father, loving grandfather, big brother, nurturing guardian, dedicated teacher, watchful coach, encouraging mentor, loyal friend and confidant. His legacy of kindness, generosity, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to his patients will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who will come to know of him through the countless stories of his selflessness, generosity and care.
He loved dancing, reminiscing with family and friends, gardening, watching cartoons, action movies and other selected movies chosen at random by Netflix. He enjoyed traveling. He was a foodie who enjoyed food from various cultures and eating sweets including, ice cream, cheesecake, donuts, candy, creme brulee, bubble tea and so many more delectable treats.
In this time of loss, we reflect on Dr. Domingo's remarkable life and the countless moments of joy, relief, and gratitude he brought into the world. His journey reminds us of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many. As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, colleague, brother, and friend, we celebrate his life and the enduring legacy of love and service to all in need that he leaves behind. His memory will forever be a beacon of light for all who had the privilege to know him. May he rest in perfect, perpetual peace.
In remembrance of Dr. Domingo's life, the family requests charitable donations to be made to the Sancta Clara Monastery.
A visitation for Dr. Domingo will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd NW, Canton, Ohio 44718. First I would like to say how much of a blessin it is too have known Dr. Domingo. He and I crossed paths as I was leaving a doctor who treated me as less then human. When i had my first appointment with Dr. Domingo I didn't quite know what to expect. As soon as he walked into the room, such peace accompanied him, and I knwe I was with the right Dr. And I stuck with him with my second child aswell. So to the family thank you for sharing this precious man with us all. God Bless

"Dr. Tunji" was my OB/GYN as well as trusted family doctor to me and my husband for over 35 years. He delivered all our children - was my daughters´ first OB/GYN - and guided our overall health care with great skill, caring and compassion. Over the years we had such wonderful conversations about everything from the latest handheld technologies to parenting ("you just got to love them, mama!") to our deep Faith and his deeply abiding love of Family. When he was delivering babies joyfully or sitting late with patients we always knew Rosie was there supporting and caring for us too. Our condolences and thanks to Rosie and the whole family and caring staff - all feel like extended family to us ... what a wonderful example he set as he served and contributed to our world here. God bless - eternal rest and perpetual light shine upon him..

I´ve known Dr.D since he did his Aultman Internal Medicine MICU rotation as a resident , where I worked as a nurse 40 some years ago. I knew he was special right away...that smile and welcoming hello, and he was eager to learn all that he could to be the best doctor he could be....and he was. He really cared about each patient and wanted to do the best for that patient.
I didn´t work with him in OB/GYN until 1997 when I transferred to the Aultman clinic, doing Internal Medicine and OB/GYN, where he would occasionally work as the attending Dr. But in the meantime, whenever I would see him in the halls of Aultman, or stairways, or in an elevator, or the cafeteria, he always took the time to give a hello, how are you, how are the kids, and that smile.
He was just an exceptional person, he gave his all, so nice, caring, jovial, good hearted. I just can´t say enough about him.
To say he will be missed is an understatement. There is no replacement for him. I´m sure his tribute will be all the people who come to calling hours, come to his funeral mass, write a memory or condolence, send a card, send flowers, drop in on family, shed tears, or just pray for his soul to be at well-earned rest now with our Lord Jesus. He is so humble, yet truly deserving. Rest in God´s peace, dear Dr.D.

Dr Domingo was one in a million! He was more like one of the family. Having the opportunity to have him in our lives was a God send. He was always there. After spending 14 weeks in the hospital with my last pregnancy, I had the opportunity to get to know him a bit better and appreciate him even more. I remember him and his beautiful wife coming to visit one night in their formal attire ( he in a tux and her in a gown), just looking stunning, just to check in on me and see that I was ok. He did the memorable "dance" with his lovely daughter Miranda when I made it to 32 weeks. It was standing room only as all of the staff crowded in my room, (my family was barely able to get in) just to see him perform. In all my time there I can honestly say, I never heard an unkind word, only praises from all that worked with him directly. He was an example to aspire to. For that reason, the day he delivered my twin, I asked him if he would consider being their Godfather. He graciously said, "I would be honored." But it was us that were honored to have him become part of our family. I will share a few pics from the famous dance in my room to the wonderful baptism where he honored us with his presence and lifetime commitment. I can never thank him or his family enough for all the kindness and generosity they have shared over the years. I hope sharing these photos reminds you of all the love and happiness he shared with so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today and always!

I first started seeing Dr. Domingo 34 years ago. He delivered my first child, a son, 32 years ago. Then Dr. Hamilton delivered my daughter, 29 years ago (when they were partners). I have been seeing Dr. Domingo every year for over the 34 years. He was an amazing doctor and listened carefully to every concern I ever had. I remember him dearly and will miss his laughs and talks each time I was there. I vowed to continue seeing him until he retired and last August, he said he wasn't retiring yet (I was happy about that). He will be missed!

Dr. Domingo delivered my son in 2012. The pregnancy was a hard one and he always came in the room dancing and smiling. I begged him to induce me and he would not. He said "when the baby is ready he will come" things did not go as planned and I had to have a c section, and I was so scared. I was put on a table in a room by myself for a little bit, he came in and saw how scared I was and he held my hand and told me he had done this so many times and that everything was going to be OK, that my husband would be in soon, and I would be holding my baby boy soon. He promised that everything was going to be OK, and I cannot describe the comfort that gave me at a time when I was just so scared and worried.
Also during the surgery he played some Flo Rida. such a fun personality he had. He will be missed but his reward will be great.

My deepest condolences to his lovely wife Rosie and their beautiful girls. May he rest in peace.

There are no words to adequately express the profound loss of such a compassionate and genuine man. Our community will feel his loss for years to come. Dr. D was my rock during some difficult times in my life. Always providing support and never judgement. It is not often we encounter someone who has had such an impact on so many families. I had been a patient of his. This was while I was pregnant with our daughter, and my husband had just been laid off work, of course right at Christmas time too. I had an appointment for my check up and was an emotional mess from everything. Dr Domingo asked what was wrong so we explained through my tears. At the end of my appointment he told me to sit tight a minute cuz he had something for us. He comes back and hands us an envelope. I look at him all confused, cuz we never asked for anything. We open it up, and he gifted us money to help us with Christmas for our kids. We left with tears of joy and happiness. I will never forget his kindness and generosity. I will never forget the day my daughter was born either. He was in the hospital on the L&D floor, but was 30 seconds too late, she wasn't waiting for him lol. Nurses were telling me not to push, here my daughter kinda just slipped out on her own.

Dr.Domingo delivered my only child with a miscarriage before and after. He was always so caring and kind. During labor, I kept asking for an ice cold Coke! Dr. Albert Domingo was the finest doctor in the state of Ohio. I would not trust my life or my pregnancy in the hands of anyone other than Dr Domingo. I moved from Florida back to Ohio when I was pregnant with my last daughter because I trusted no one else, other than Dr Domingo. He delivered my children and my grandchildren. He delivered my grandson February 28 a month before he passed away. He was the kindest, warm hearted, most loving physician, I have ever known. It saddens me deeply that he is no longer with us. I first met Dr Domingo as a medical student from NEOUCOM during my OB/GYN rotation in 1987 at Aultman Hospital. What stands out in my memory of him since then was his intelligence (boarded in Internal Medicine and OB/GYN); his teaching of students and residents; his compassion and caring of his patients; and his humanity and kindness to his colleagues and fellow man. At meetings or hospital holiday parties I would see him occasionally over the years, and he always would greet me with a smile and ask, “How is your daddy doing?” Albert was a wonderful physician and a great man. May God bless the Domingo Family

His was warmth and compassion. I worked with him when we worked at Mercy. He became my doctor when I had my first child. He took that same child when she was 18 on rounds with a lab coat when she desired to become a doctor. His family traveled with us to a ranch celebrating the history of black cowboys. To say he was loved and truly will be missed is an understatement. My heart hurts. Rosie, the Ransom Family sends their love and sincerest condolences at this great loss.
