Albert J. Getty, age 86, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025. He was born on May 21, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the Frank and Mary Getty of Brookline.
Albert is survived by his children and their spouses: Cheryl (Jim) Passios, Albert (Rhonda) Getty, and Donald Getty; his grandchildren Matthew (Rachel) Getty, Marissa (Alex) Kohler, and Grace Passios; and also by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Getty, and brothers, Frank and Robert Getty.
Albert worked during his teenage years at several bakeries in the Pittsburgh/Brookline area and served as a Company Baker in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. He later worked for Bell Telephone first as a truck driver, then as a lineman, and finally as a splicer until he retired.
Albert's greatest joy was at Christmas when he would bake dozens of cookies to distribute to family, friends, and gleefully provided cookie trays to his various healthcare providers and their staffs to thank them for keeping him alive for yet another year. He loved finding and putting up the biggest, fattest Christmas tree he could find, and building a village with a railroad on the platform beneath it. He was a family man who liked to travel in his younger years and enjoyed being a member of the Perryopolis Lions Club and recently received his 50-year service pin from his Lodge Brothers of the Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania Tri-County Lodge No. 252.
A funeral service will be held at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA, 15317 on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 10AM, followed by visitation from 11am-6pm. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 2pm. Everyone please meet at the cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.
