Albert Jaster, age 74, of McHenry, died Friday, April 22, 2011, at Centegra Hospital - McHenry. He was born March 29, 1937 in Chicago to Albert A.. and Catherine (Maher) Jaster. On January 21, 1956, he married Sonja Streed in Chicago.
A resident of California for 26 years, he returned to Illinois and lived in McHenry for the past 6 years. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a supervisor in the bindery department for Commerce Clearing House in Chicago for over 24 years.
Enjoyments included golfing, bowling, and being outdoors, where he enjoyed gardening, grooming his lawn, and cooking on his Weber charcoal grill. He loved the company of his dog, Amber.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sonja; three children, Julie (Steven) Battisti of McHenry, David (Dawn Handzel) Jaster of West Dundee, and Karen (Jason) Staublein of Redlands, CA; six grandchildren, Anthony, Steve, Daniel, Jamie, Tim, and Sterling; three great-grandchildren, Trevor, Aidan and Garrett; and a sister, Dolores (the late Andrew) Moore of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Marvin (Jean) Jaster; and a sister, Irene (Carl) Smaglick.
Friends may visit with his family from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Justen Funeral Home & Crematory, 3700 W. Charles J. Miller Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
