March 14, 1918 - May 26, 2009 Albert Lee Matus Sr., 91, of Caldwell, passed away on May 26, 2009, at V.A. Hospital in Temple, Texas. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. A Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell, with Father Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Graveside services will follow in St Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Caldwell under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. Albert was born on March 14, 1918, to Joe Matus and Frances Munzy in Caldwell, Texas. He was married to Mary Ruth Arnold on June 20, 1943, and together they had one son. He later married Willie Mae Prazak on January 24, 1951. Albert served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was Chief engineer on a riverboat for Houston Barge Lines. He was in the grocery business for 24 years. Albert was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell, the V.F.W., the Knights of Columbus, K.J.Z.T., S.P.J.S.T. and was a past president of R.V.O.S. Albert's passions were dancing, eating and family get-togethers. Albert was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ruth Arnold and second wife, Willie Mae Matus; parents; and sisters, Agness Lapp and Milady Kazmir. Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert Lee Matus Jr. and Margie, of Giddings and Thomas and Robin Matus, of Caldwell.; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and A.J. Macik, of Caldwell and Lorri and Kevin Stewart, of Bryan; brother and sister-in-law, Jodie and Barbara Matus, of Caldwell; sister and brother-in-law, Lillie and Joe Foster, of Austin; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
