Albert Morrone Obituary

WESTERLY - Albert John Morrone Sr., 83, of Westerly, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Patricia M. (Abate) Morrone, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Born and raised in Westerly, Al was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Morrone. He graduated from La Salle Academy and earned a degree in business from Providence College in 1962.

Al enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in Research and Development at Electric Boat in Groton. He was a proud and active member of many organizations including BPOE #678, the Calabrese Society, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Antique Automobile Club of America.

In addition to his professional work, Al and his brother founded Morrone Power Equipment, a John Deere dealership that sparked his lifelong passion for engines and mechanics. Whether building pulling trucks, restoring antique cars, or tackling a new project, Al could always be found in the garage doing what he loved. He was also an avid gardener and sports enthusiast.

Al's vibrant spirit and one-of-a-kind sense of humor lit up every room. He had a remarkable gift for making others smile and forged countless lifelong friendships - along with many new ones during winters spent in Fort Lauderdale.

Above all, Al cherished time with his family. He delighted in supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and activities, traveling far and wide to be with them. He was their biggest fan. Family holidays and gatherings were joyful occasions, always filled with laughter and love.

In addition to his devoted wife Patricia, Al is survived by his three children: Albert J. Morrone Jr. and his wife Lynn, Mark J. Morrone and his wife Sarah, all of Westerly, and Lisa A. Robbins and her husband Chris of Charlestown. He was a proud grandfather to Kevin Robbins, Kyle Robbins (Julie), Hannah Robbins, and Meghan Morrone, and great-grandfather to Charlotte Robbins. Al was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Morrone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 13th at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce Street, Westerly. To share a message of condolence, please visit http://www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com

Al will be remembered always for his warmth, humor, and love for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Albie & Mark-
So sorry to hear about your dad. We could always count on him being up there in the stands cheering us on back in the day in football from peewees up through HS. He was a super nice guy and I know he is missed.
