Albert Henry Ott, a cherished family man, respected veteran, and lover of life's simple pleasures, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in
Detroit, MI, at the age of 88.
Born on April 17, 1937, in
Ferndale, MI, to Eugene and Jane Ott, Albert's early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family, a trait he carried throughout his life.
Albert's journey was marked by his service to his country as a proud United States Army veteran. After his military tenure, he dedicated many years to the roofing industry, where his strong work ethic and reliability were greatly valued.
Albert's heart was truly at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was a guiding light to his children, Mylene, Kimberly, Albert, Tiffiny, Judi, Lisa, and Stefan. His legacy continued to grow with his adoring grandchildren, Sahra, Anayat, Kazmira, Elissa, Anais, Justin, Jacob, Jerrod, Joshua, Tayler, Aaron Albert, Aaron Alan, Christopher, Brandon, Alec, Jordan, Quaid, Ethan, Joshua K. and Hannah; and his 19 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.
A man of many interests, Albert found happiness in the simple things. He was an aficionado of Western films, with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood being his favorite silver screen cowboys. Boating on Lake St. Clair with his daughters was among his cherished pastimes, as was tending to his grass and landscaping at home. His passion for classic cars was evident in his prized possession, a Thunderbird, from his younger days.
Albert's sense of humor was legendary; he was quick-witted and always ready with a one-liner that would leave his family in stitches. His grandchildren, in particular, would gather around him in the backyard, basking in the laughter and love he so freely gave. His iconic recliner chair was his throne, from which he shared stories and wisdom with those he held dear.Even during his hospital stays, Albert's charm and humor made him a favorite among the nurses. He was a man who made an impression on everyone he met, and his presence was a source of comfort and joy. His signature sign-off at the end of phone calls, "have a goodie," will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
