Hey, Fonz.
You've been a friend for a long, long time.
I remember the day I interviewed you for your position at the City of Hartford (it was the first time I ever got to interview my future boss). I complimented you on your tie. I didn't know then that that would be the beginning of a lifelong friendship.
I gained immense respect for you while working with you for ten years at the City, we accomplished great things together. I think our first real connection was sitting at the bar a the hotel in Philly after running payroll out of the disaster site when the Hartford data center flooded. Together we moved the data center from 990 Wethersfield Ave to the Times Building and then moved all departments in the Times Building to Constitution Plaza. There was the day to day IT stuff too; I remember begging you not to send me downstairs to take over Operations when the ops manager retired. I hated it at first, but together but we made it work.
We had over 20 years of post retirement get togethers. The annual "Day on the Bay" with Peter, Patrick and Barry were always a great time, a boat ride followed by lobster, steak, shellfish, cigars and copious libations. That's back when we were all younger and still quite bulletproof. Then dinners with Peter, Patrick and Barry; Nunu's, Coyote Blue, Luka to name a few. Even when we hadn't seen each other for a year it seemed that we just got together a week ago. It was always smooth, comfortable and full of laughs.
You have always been a touchstone in my life, someone who just instilled a sense of peace in me when I would think about you... And then I'd shoot you an email or a text. I'll miss you.

Dear Kara and family,
We were greatly saddened by the loss of Al, your dear father and our longtime neighbor and, ( more importantly) friend. He was a familiar "front porch" visitor to share views, laughs and news with us over a glass of wine.
We, along with others in this beach community, will greatly miss him.
May he now rest in eternal peace
