Albert Leonard Pfeifer, age 87, of Fairfax, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away Friday morning, November 7, 2025 at Shenandoah of The Virginian in Fairfax, Virginia.
Born on Cinco de Mayo, May 5, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the youngest child of four to the late Albert and Elizabeth Heinlein Pfeifer.
Albert served the United States of America in the U.S. Air Force for four years at the age of 18 as a Communication Specialist. After being honorably discharged from the USAF, he began his career at the U.S. State Department Foreign Service as a Courier with early posts in the Far East and Middle East. With a promotion to Communications Officer, Albert was posted in Europe to include London, Frankfurt, and The Hague. Continuing his career at the U.S. State Department in Washington DC, he was assigned to Brazil and Guatemala, where he then retired from the Foreign Service in 1988. Through retirement, Len enjoyed playing on softball teams and bowling leagues, umpiring Little League baseball, and contributing to non-profits such as Meals on Wheels in the Fairfax County area.
Survived by his two children, one son, Christopher Pfeifer of Burke, Virginia, and one daughter, Amanda Pfeifer of Oxnard, California.
Preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Robert Pfeifer, and one sister, Eleanore Schriver.
A private burial will be announced for a later date at Robinson’s Run Cemetery in McDonald, Pennsylvania.
