Albert Rompza Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benson Family Funeral Home on Dec. 18, 2025.
Albert Leo Rompza
October 15, 1949-December 15, 2025
Albert Rompza leaves behind his five children, Kelley, Bradley, Nicole, Emma, and AJ, his former wife and mother to their children, Jean Olson, and his 10 grandchildren, with one on the way in March of 2026.
Albert passed away surrounded by immense love of his family in his final days on earth and he left behind a legacy, rooted in family, community, and a life that was well lived!
He was a man who appreciated, and instilled in his children, hard work and life's simple pleasures. He loved time at the beach, feeling the Sun and the breeze and was most often found on his bicycle rides shirtless in his biking shorts. Simple moments, like these, brought him peace and happiness and were a reflection of his steady, grounded nature.
Albert was the longtime owner of the legendary Burwood Tap, est. 1933. a place that became much more than a neighborhood bar. It was a gathering space where friendships were formed, stories were shared, and everyone felt welcome! His spirit made the Burwood Tap a second home for so many, a home away from and a place where everyone would know your name.
Albert will be honored and remembered by his family in a private, intimate, and honorary service in true Rompza form, on December 28
A Celebration of Life will be held at The Burwood Tap, (724 W. Wrightwood, Chicago, IL) on Sunday, January 4, from 3-5pm, as Al would not want it any other way!!! Family and friends are encouraged to gather, share stories, and truly celebrate the life and the legacy that will live on through moments each of us shared with the bigger than life, Al!

I was at the Burwood Tap when it changed from father to son. I was with Al and Jeanie back in the Lake Forest days at that restaurant right next to the Lantern. May AL "rest in peace" and his memory be a blessing to all that knew and loved him!
