I was fortunate to be a County of Berks employee and was chosen as the Senior Judge's administrative assistant (Judges Stallone & Grim [whom I had worked for]). I was intimidated due to Judge Stallone's reputation as being "difficult to work for". We also attend the same church, WLUMC. His lovely wife Orpha sang in choir, as do I. We became friends. Once Judge Stallone realized I show up on time, type fast and accurate, he softened and we became friends. Eventually we even began to celebrate staff birthdays (which he previously frowned upon). During breaks he spoke to me about his family - oh how he loved each of you! He shared stories of Orpha, how they met and that she was the best cook ever! Family vacations in the RV. One hunting trip with client Morgan Trailer and he became lost in the woods. He told me he kept singing "Onward Christian Soldiers" and eventually was found by a search party. Our choir sang the National Anthem at a Philadelphia Phillies game, Orpha and Judge participated, what a terrific memory! He may have projected a tough exterior in the courtroom, but he truly had a heart of gold and cared about others, especially his family. I am honored to have known this man. My condolences to his family, you took such great care of both of them. God's Peace, Pam Berger
