Albert Edward "Al" Sukut Jr. DDS

Dr. Albert "Al" Edward Sukut Jr., blessed us with 79 years. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and dear friends on August 12, 2024. Al was born in Pasadena, California, on October 23, 1944, the fourth child out of five to his Parents Albert and Dorthy (Whipple) Suckut. Al lived a life full of joy, adventure and laughter. He was a devoted father, coach, dentist, loving partner, accomplished athlete, and a great friend to many.
Al is survived by his son, Albert "Albie" Edward Sukut III, and his wife, Tuti, who blessed him with two cherished grandchildren, Madeleine and Marcel. Albie also has a son, Adrian, from a previous marriage, who remains an important part of the family's story. Al is also survived by his daughter, Dr. Karly Sukut Neppl, who had the unique gift of practicing dentistry alongside her father for 23 years. Karly and her husband, Michael Neppl, have three beloved children-Kennedy, Seamus, and Jude-with their eldest daughter currently in dental school, inspired by her grandfather's legacy.
Al found love and companionship later in life with his partner, Mariana Gleckman, with whom he shared many beautiful moments. He is also remembered by Linda (Molnar) Sukut, his first wife of 25 years, and the mother of his children, with whom he shared many joyful, significant years.
He was preceded in death by his older brother, Lloyd Sukut (2010), and his oldest brother, Cal Sukut (2022). His memory lives on through his surviving family: his brother, Myron Sukut, and wife, Mozelle, as well as his sister, Barbara Waughtel and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Al was known for his love of life; he embraced adventures, family, friendships, and his career with passion. Overcoming polio at age 7, Al showed a remarkable resilience and optimism from a young age that would define him. He was the life of the party, always ready to celebrate with a gregarious smile and infectious positive energy that lit up the room. In high school, Al was drafted by the Houston Astros but chose instead to attend Fresno State on a full scholarship. While at Fresno State, he was named 3rd team All American and set the record for "most doubles with a wooden bat," a record he proudly holds to this day. After graduating, Al attended Creighton University for dental school, launching a successful career that spanned 53 years. He founded his dental practice in Costa Mesa in 1971 and remained dedicated to his patients and community, never truly retiring, just as he had always wished.
Outside of dentistry, Al was an avid golfer and skier, passionate sports fan, and an even more passionate storyteller. His stories, full of wit and humor, will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of hearing them. To paraphrase John Wooden, whom Al emulated, Al truly made each day his masterpiece.
The funeral service will be held at Edward the Confessor Parish Church in Dana Point, California, on September 14th at 1 p.m.
Following the service, a reception will be held at El Niguel Country Club, a place dear to Al's heart, where friends and family can gather to celebrate the life of a man who loved to celebrate life itself.
Al will be buried at El Toro Cemetery with a service on Sunday September 15th.
