Albert "Al" Syat, 81 of Milford, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 17, 2025 at his home in Milford, CT. Al was born on February 24, 1944 in Blytheville, Arkansas, to the late loving George and Ruth Syat.

Following his graduation from Milford High School in 1962, Al worked for the NYNYH Railroad, when he was cordially "invited" to join the United States Army in 1969 and was trained as a military police officer and dog handler, roles that reflected both his discipline and deep respect for responsibility while proudly serving two years and a tour of duty in Vietnam. His time spent as a dog handler proved very useful following his time in the military, as he carried on training dogs independently as well. After his service, Al attended New Haven College, where he enthusiastically took any class that sparked his interest, especially those centered on history. Reading was a passion for Al and he was known for his abundant knowledge and reputation as a true history buff.

Al went on to build a diverse and accomplished career. He proudly served as a special with the Milford Police Department, notably becoming the oldest candidate at the time to complete the police academy in his mid 30s while working full-time, an achievement that spoke to his determination and grit. Though his professional path included several careers, Al proved time and again that his wit and intelligence allowed him to succeed in each endeavor.

Known for his good-natured spirit, dry sense of humor, wit and easygoing personality, Al found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was stoic, stubborn and lived life on his own terms. His heart was huge, caring and kind, especially with animals, as he loved all creatures great and small, bringing home the abandoned, abused and unwanted from childhood throughout his life and providing a loving, caring home for the rest of their days. Al, being a creature of habit, started every day in his beloved 2010 Camaro watching the sun rise, working the New York Times crossword at Gulf Beach and listening to the "Oldies". Boating was especially dear to him, and he cherished cruising with family and friends aboard their 26-foot cabin cruiser.

Al is survived by his lifelong best friend and former wife Bonnie Syat, brother David Syat, (Gail) and extended beloved family and friends. Al was predeceased by his sister Judith "Judy" Syat in April of 2025.

A "Celebration of Al" will be held by the family in the future. To leave online condolences, please visit our website at www.codywhitefuneralservice.com
