Died: Aug. 30, 2015
Verlon Hughes, born April 4, 1922, in Forest, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Silver Cross Hospital.
A United States Army Veteran of World War II. Retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. after 36 years. A faithful member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sallie; three brothers and one grandson.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his son, George Grant; and his daughters, Debora and Tawana Hughes; three sisters and two brothers; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1502 E. Mills Rd., Joliet, Illinois. Home-going celebration at 10:00 a.m., Pastor Darius Thomas, officiating. Interment immediately following service.
