Dr. Albert Worchel passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, while receiving hospice care at the home of his daughter, Lois Worchel Elitzky.
Dr. Worchel was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 17, 1933, to Louis and Sarah Worchel. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, he made his way to Texas, and received two Bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954; a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts. He graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1959, and served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force Reserve Medical Corps.
Dr. Worchel settled in Houston with his former wife Marilyn Worchel, now deceased, where they were blessed with three children; Harris Maurice, who preceded him in death, Lois Pam, and Celia Fay Worchel, who also proceeded him in death.
He was a beloved partner to Larry Helm, a father, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather, and a well-respected and loved general practitioner in Houston for decades, beginning in the early 1960s until the early 2000s. After a heart attack and bypass surgery, he continued caring for patients while working for a home health care agency once he closed his private practiced. His many patients during his private practice years admired him for his amazing bedside manner and his compassionate, caring ways.
Dr. Worchel leaves behind his brokenhearted family, including his partner of 56 years, Larry Helm; daughter, Lois Pam Worchel Elitzky (Jon); granddaughters, Marissa Beth Elitzky and Sara Hope Worchel; grandsons Scott Michael Elitzky (Shaylee) and Logan Andrew Elitzky; great-granddaughter, Aubree Mae Elitzky; and his daughter in law, Dayna Worchel, who loved him like he was her own father, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed.
