Alberta Crosby Obituary

CROSBY, Alberta Lee, 74, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, daughter of the late Tanner and Inez Helsley. Mrs. Crosby was a graduate from Humes High School and a member of Decatur Trinity Christian Church in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked in the tax preparation industry for Jackson Hewitt and later for Vangent. She lived most of her life in the Memphis area before settling in Chesterfield. Mrs. Crosby is survived by her husband of 39 years, Alfred E. Crosby; children, Dennis M. Cain and wife, Jo Anne, of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Candy L. Gurkin and husband, Whitt, of Memphis; three grandchildren; a sister, Bernie Schingle and husband, Joe, of Cordova, Tennessee; and a host of nephews and other family members. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the chapel at Johnston-Willis Medical Center, Chesterfield, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital. To Alberta's family,
I worked with her at Vangent and she was such a sweet person. Every day when asked how she was, she would reply "I'm fine and dandy!" She will be missed, and my thoughts are with the entire family during this difficult time.
