BAZETTA- Alberta Grace Woofter Hammond, age 90, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at 7:21 p.m. at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. She was born April 22, 1924, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of the late Karl Woofter and the late Ethel Mann Woofter. Mrs. Hammond graduated from Mecca High School as class Valedictorian in 1942. On March 6, 1943 she married her late husband, William J. Hammond (who was also Valedictorian of his high school graduating class) and they were married for 63 years. Mrs. Hammond was employed with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA Farm Office) after high school and then went to work at Sunlight Electrical Manufacturing Company and Packard Electric during WWII. After leaving Packard Electric, Alberta and William decided to start a family and she became a devoted and loving housewife, raising their three children. Alberta became a Christian at a young age and served the Lord by teaching sunday school classes, women's bible studies and was actively involved in multiple missionary societies. Over the years, Alberta has attended Wildare United Methodist Church, Champion Church of the Nazarene and the Cortland Church of the Nazarene, where she was currently a member. Mrs. Hammond was an avid reader and had a keen sense of humor, loving to tell jokes every chance she had. She is survived by her daughter, Anita M. (Henry) Hammond Hiss of Cortland, Ohio; two sons, Roger (Jane) Hammond of Lodi and the Rev. Dale (Kathy) Hammond of Massillon; 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and a sister, Karlene Moschell of Cherry Valley, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Hammond on March 26, 2006. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Karl and Ethel Mann Woofter; grandson, Timothy James Gillies; and siblings, Lynn Woofter, Marjorie Martin, Leona Gale, Robert Woofter, Stanley Woofter, Richard Woofter, Virginia Muir, Max Woofter and Dale Woofter. Arrangements are being handled by Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 North High Street, Cortland, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at the Cortland Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 where family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cortland Church of the Nazarene, 293 E. Main Street, Cortland, Ohio 44410 or to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
