Aldo Eccher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Homes - Garnerville on Oct. 18, 2025.
Aldo Michael Eccher, a long-time resident of Stony Point, New York, passed away peacefully in his home on October 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 100 years old.
The third child of Italian immigrants, Aldo was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and moved to New York with his wife, Theresa, and their young children in the 1950s, to find employment. After attending night school to earn his teaching degree, he went to work as an Auto, Body, and Fender teacher at BOCES, where he remained until he retired.
Aldo was a member of "The Greatest Generation," and bravely served his country during WWII. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy as a submariner aboard the "USS Sawfish" which was stationed in the Pacific Ocean, and where he proudly served from 1943-1946. He went on to serve his country in the Naval Reserves for many more years.
Aldo was a naturalist, and an avid fisherman and hunter. He greatly enjoyed fishing for rainbow and brown trout on the Delaware River, and crabbing on the Hudson River. He hunted deer in the Catskill Mountains, where, with the help of family and friends, he built his dream house, "The Little Cabin in the Woods." There he spent many pleasant weekends and summers. When asked what advice he had for such a long, healthy life he said, "Work Hard."
Aldo was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point and volunteered at the woodworking shop with the Priests and Brothers at Don Bosco Marian Shrine. He remembered the prayers his mother taught him until the very end and recited the "Angel of God" prayer in Italian every night before bed.
Aldo is predeceased by his loving wife, Theresa, to whom he was married for 71 years, his brother, Charles, his sister, Pia, and by his son-in-law, Gerald. He is survived by his six children: Anne, Marcia, Mark, Diane, Esther and Theresa, and their spouses: Dennis, Mary Grace, Peter, and Steven, twelve grandchildren; Stephen, Rachel, Kara, Michael, Francesca, Matthew, Joshua, Elizabeth, John, Claire, Lauren, and Christopher; and eight great-grandchildren, Jacob, Daniel, Eliana, Gabriella, Luke, Lily, Connor, and one more great-grandson on the way; as well as his very dear friend, Mary Hamm.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent and compassionate care given to Aldo by Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital, Montefiore Nyack Hospital Home Care, and United Hospice of Rockland County, and especially by his loving aides, Katie and Marie.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 4pm-8pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, 10am at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point, NY, followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Immaculate Conception Church or any veteran's organization.

Aldo was an amazing man, good friend, and True American. Sincere condolences to the Eccher family who worked so hard to provide for him until his passing. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. May God Bless Aldo & Tess.
