Obituary
Our beloved Alean S. Bowser, affectionately known as "Granny B," "Sister and Mother Bowser," was born October 28, 1937, to the late Mannie C. Sers and Eunice Mae Sers in Bullock County, AL. She transitioned into eternal rest February 17, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Alean S. Bowser lived a life devoted to her family and service to the kingdom of God. Among her family and friends, she will be remembered for her high standards, quick wit, and rich butter pound cakes. She was a woman of strength and tenacity, surviving breast cancer and in her later years living with cancer. No matter her condition, she always sought to meet the needs of others. Alean would prepare Sunday meals for her elderly family and friends and walk to deliver them after taking care of her family. She would make fruit baskets at Christmas and deliver them to those she knew and didn't know in the nursing home. Family and friends who were sick or low could depend on her for a call that included reading scripture and devotions. If you knew her, you probably received a card at some point as she loved to give and receive cards. She was a phenomenal mother who will always be cherished for her never-ending support and unconditional love.
For the Kingdom of God, Alean S. Bowser dedicated herself to the life of the church and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age at Ross Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Montgomery, AL. Mother Bowser served the church in leadership as an usher, church school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School director, the church representative for camps, conferences and conventions, and in her later years, an elder. She was an active member of the Christian Women's Fellowship (DWM) and Ministers' Wives Alliance. She always sought opportunities to learn and to teach others how to do it right, always referencing the Word of God and a manual ordered specifically for the task. Mother Bowser loved and appreciated the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and served Alameda Christian Church, Nashville, TN, United Christian Church, Montgomery, AL, Mt. Zion Christian Church, White Hall, AL and First Christian Church, Reidsville, NC. Her proudest moments were supporting the work of her late husband, Elder H. Bruce Bowser in organizing and establishing Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Nashville, TN. Her dedication was steadfast both during his journey and throughout hers. Mother Bowser was a quintessential First Lady who didn't care about the title.
Alean graduated salutatorian from Booker T. Washington High School, Montgomery, AL and furthered her education at Manpower Business College, Birmingham, AL. She was an avid reader and loved to travel. She took pride in her secretarial role at the historic Dexter King Memorial Baptist Church, Montgomery, AL as well as her accounting work at the Sunday School Publishing Board, Nashville, TN. Alean developed relationships in all of her vocations that lasted a lifetime. She was very civically minded and worked diligently in Voter Registration during the Civil Rights era and beyond, served in various capacities through her membership in the NAACP and other social and political conscious organizations. Mother Bowser consistently donated to many charities throughout her life.
Mother Bowser is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elder H. Bruce Bowser, two sisters, and three brothers.
