Alejandro Aguirre

Alejandro Aguirre, 78, of Batesville, Texas passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2025 at 8:12 a.m. surrounded by his beloved family. A decorated Vietnam War combat medic, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and loyal friend. Alejandro was defined by courage, compassion, and service. He is survived by his beloved high school sweetheart and wife of 32 years, Elida R. Aguirre. He is also survived by former spouse Olivia Aguirre, daughter Griselda Aguirre-Garcia from San Antonio, TX and son, Adrian Aguirre from Uvalde, TX. Preceded in death Baby Alejandro Aguirre Jr. who was born and heaven sent, eternally resting in Eunice, Lousiana. Alejandro Aguirre’s legacy will live on through his most treasured hearts, his grandson, Moses Alexander Garcia, and his granddaughter, Madeleine Elizabeth Garcia.

Born on August 29, 1946, in Villaldama, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to parents the late Felipe Aguirre and Gertrudis Alvarado. He grew up in Batesville, Texas with strong values instilled by his loving parents and shared a close bond with his siblings, sister Maria Isabel Guerrero (Eduardo), the late sister Minerva Aguirre, the late brother, Felipe Javier Aguirre (Maria), brother, Lauro Aguirre, and finally the late sister Maria Minerva Aguirre. Their memories and shared stories remained dear to him all his life.

Alejandro graduated from Uvalde High School in 1964. He was still enrolled at Southwest Texas Junior College at the age of 19, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army (Co “B”, 9th Medical Battalion, APO SF 96371) and served as a Combat Medic during the Vietnam era from August 12, 1966, to November 1, 1967. Under harrowing conditions, he delivered lifesaving care to his fellow soldiers, earning respect and gratitude that followed him long after his military years. Awards and medals were the distinguished Combat Medic Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.

Alejandro also worked for numerous years as an Offshore Operator Medical Corpsman for Halliburton. Known for his steady presence and selfless heart, Alejandro was genuinely kind and served as a mentor to many youths in his community. His home was a refuge, his advice often life-changing, and his loyalty beyond measure. Alejandro was also a father figure to many of his extended nieces, nephews and godchildren. Throughout his life he shared many stories infused with humor and quiet wisdom. Alejandro’s greatest gift is the love he gave, the lives he touched in the most exemplary manner.

The viewing will be at Rushing-Estes Knowles Funeral Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas on July 23, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on July 24, 2025, beginning at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Batesville, TX at 10:00 a.m. followed by military honors at the Edgewood-Woodlawn in Batesville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Edward Guerrero, Alphonse Guerrero, Carlos Reyes, Felipe Aguirre, Moses Garcia, and Joe Vasquez. There will be a small memorial gathering to celebrate his life at the Pavillion (La Mota) Batesville Recreational Park.
