Alex Christopher Baker was born in Nassau Bay (Houston), TX on February 13, 1992 to Jeff and Christine Baker, and passed away unexpectedly at home on August 12, 2024 in League City. Alex grew up in League City, attending Ferguson Elementary, League City Intermediate, then Clear Creek High School, where he was active all 4 years in the Wildcat Marching Band, playing alto saxophone then baritone saxophone. He graduated from CCHS in 2010. After graduation, he moved to San Marcos, TX to attend Texas State University; he returned to League City in 2019. Alex completed his Bachelor of Science in Anthropology degree from Texas State in August 2022.
Since January of 2023, Alex was employed at the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) where he worked as a trainer and guest services representative in the Cockrell Butterfly Center, as well as the King Tut Exhibit, Dreyer Masterworks, and Sharks! exhibits. Alex enjoyed his work at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences and appreciated his co-workers and interactions with staff and customers. He spent time with friends, loved action movies, the Red-Hot Chili Peppers (his email has the bass player's name in it), the Houston Astros, trying out new recipes, riding his e-bike, traveling and eating out with family. His last trip with family was to NYC for the week of the 4 of July, and he attended an Astros game on Friday, August 2 with his mom and dad. He had a long illness, never or rarely complained and was prepared to go to work at HMNS on the morning he passed. Alex was polite to all, a friend to many, and was loved by his family.
Alex was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Jackie and E.R. (Pete) Peterson, his paternal grandparents Albert and Audrey Baker, uncles John Baker, Larry Loos, and Charles Vessel; aunts Karen Baker and Martha Dillon, and cousins Eric S. (Rick) Johnson, Kevin Baker and Ronald Baker.
He is survived by his parents, Christine and Jeff of League City, brother Andrew of Houston, brother Adam of Lubbock, aunts Mary Ann Vessel of Garland, TX and Sallie Loos of Cape Girardeau, MO; uncles Tom Baker of Cape Girardeau, MO and Abbie Baker of St. Louis, MO. Cousins include Carl, Michelle and Cailyn Vessel of Wylie, TX; Jerilyn Howell of Garland; Larry Johnson and Angie of Leander, TX; Jennifer Johnson of Ft. Worth; Liana and Glenn Loos-Austin of Madison, WI; Laura and Keith Whitworth of Bryant, AR; Stephanie and Ryan Ellinger of Scott City, MO; Michael and Melissa Baker, Matt Baker and many others, all in Texas and Missouri.
If desired, the family asks that donations be made to Houston Museum of Natural Science at https://my.hmns.org/donate/i/1 or a charity of their choice.

I met Alex in the third grade at Ferguson Elementary School back in 1999. He was one of the most genuine people I've ever known. He & I created our first band together, Rough Edges, when we were freshmen in high school in 2006. He could slap the bass like it was the most natural thing on earth to him. He got me hooked on the Red Hot Chili Peppers & funk music. Alex always did what he felt was right & wouldn't let anyone tell him otherwise. One of the best memories I have of Alex is when we would skip class back in high school to go roll down a hill in this big industrial tube we had found just outside the school property. He got some major air one time when the tube rolled too fast, & he just walked it off like nothing happened; & I'll never forget jamming & playing funk music with him in the garage on those hot summer days when we were teens. He is dearly dearly missed & the world has lost a truly wonderful soul.

I had the pleasure to work with Alex for just 4 months and even tho it was a short period of time he definitely made a big impression. He was so kind and patient,he showed me a trick or two to make my job easier. He will definitely be missed, his last words to me were "I'll see you" and it was an honor seeing him and meeting him. I'm definitely going to miss covering his breaks and seeing his Mahjong progress I'll sneak a game for you I'll see you Alex

I was lucky enough to be able to call Alex a friend while working with him at the museum. Whenever I had a chance I'd have a small chat with him or atleast say hello, we'd talk about videogames or shows we watched. It truly was a pleasure to know him

I had the pleasure of working with Alex as one of his leads in the Sharks exhibit. Alex was a great employee and was always so kind to everyone around him. I am deeply saddened that I will no longer see him, but I am honored to have known him. I will never forget how Alex always made me smile. His family is in my prayers during this difficult time.

I was one of Alex's managers at HMNS. Alex was a great employee. I was always happy to work with him and looked forward to seeing his growth at the museum. I'm heartbroken that I will no longer be seeing him. Lately, I've passed by the stations he would work at and feel deep sadness knowing he'll never sit there again. I wish I had talked to him even more. He was kind and taken from this world far too early. My heart is with him and his loved ones. We'll miss you, Alex.

Alex will always be one of my best friends. We have a lot in common. The biggest thing, that will always stand out in my mind, is how much we both loved Doctor Who. We could talk about it for hours. Any gift we gave each other, was always Doctor Who related. I gave him a scarf and he gave me a fez. It may not be the grandest thing ever, but it was important to us, and I will always miss needing out with him. You were a Time Lord, amongst men.
