Goodbye to a real American soldier, a great surgeon, a true southern gentleman, and a dear old friend.

We were saddened to hear of Dr. Ashford's death. Although we had not seen him recently, we remember him as an excellent physician as well as a friend of the family. We remember the respect that our mother, Ruth Patrick, had for him even before being employed in his office. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

I was so very sorry to hear about Dr. Ashford's recent death. From 1983 until he retired, I was a pharmaceutical rep. and called on him in the old house in Monroe, bringing samples of Tylenol. After Dr. Ashford's retirement I always thought of him every time I passed his former office when I was in Monroe. He was a very kind and dignified person -- one of those doctors that reps. always enjoy seeing. I'm sure he was a very compassionate physician and that his patients missed him greatly after his retirement.
