Alexander "Alex" E. Hutton, Jr., 97, a decorated WW2 US Army Veteran, was born August 20, 1926 in Springfield, MA. He passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, February 2, 2024 in Moore, OK. Alex was the son of Alexander E. Hutton, Sr. of Haverhill, NH, and June AE Wake of England. He was raised in the Springfield community where, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army. After basic training at Camp Blanding, FL in January 1945, Alex sailed on the USAT Perida from Ft. Ord, CA to the Philippine island of Luzon. During his station at Luzon, Alex was assigned to the 6th Ranger Battalion and received training to prepare for the first landing in Japan ahead of the 6th Army. The 6th Ranger Bn. landed at Wakayama, Japan in September of 1945, one month after the atomic bombing on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Alex traveled through Hiroshima enroute to Kyoto where he stayed until the 6th Ranger Bn. disbanded in October of 1946. He was honorably discharged and returned home to Longmeadow, MA on November 30, 1946.
Upon returning home, Alex went to the American International College, where he graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry. After earning his degree, he joined Monadnock Paper Mills in Bennington, NH. He remained with the company for over 30 years and rose to the position of Vice President of Research and Development. Among his many achievements, Alex held a patent for water-resistant, water-flushable paper compositions that was filed on February 24, 1987. In 1951, Alex married Barbara Oviatt in MA. They had two children, Sandy and Bonnie. Barbara preceded him in death in 1996. He then moved to Highland Village, TX, where he met Joretta Brenner, and they married in 2001. In 2007, Alex and Joretta moved to Moore, OK. Alex enjoyed model trains, coin collecting, and puzzles. He was dedicated to his community and served on multiple committees and boards. Alex loved his family and received the same love in return. In addition to his first wife Barbara, Alex was preceded in death by his parents Alexander E. Hutton, Sr. and June AE Wake; brother George Clasen; and step-grandson Malachi Brenner. Alex is survived by his wife: Joretta Hutton and children Alexander "Sandy" P. Hutton and Bonnie Hutton. He is also survived by 3 step-children, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
