Alexander Dean Kennedy, 33, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully from Leukemia around 9:30pm on December 13, 2025. He was born on November 1, 1992, in Newark, NJ.
Alex graduated from Ashley High School in 2011 and dedicated several years to education and public safety. He graduated with honors Magna Cum Laude for his Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration in 2017 and then Master of Science in Business Administration in 2019. He was sworn as a Police Officer at the Burlington Police Department in 01/13/2023.
He was known for being very caring, athletic, physically tough, and had a contagious laugh. Alex was also eager to share his relationship and commitment to God, even given his tough circumstances and battle with cancer, all the way until the very end.
Alex is survived by his loving parents Ron and Tammy Kennedy; brothers Edmund Kennedy, Ryan Kennedy, John Kennedy, and Marcus Kennedy; sister Jenny Kennedy, as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, grandparents, and dear friends. He is preceded in death by Grandfather - Gunther Rieckmann and Grandmother-Louise Kennedy.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Sunday, December 21 at the Kure Beach Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, who took great care of him at the end. Alex will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the joy, strength, and kindness he brought to all who knew him.
