Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates-Rolf Funeral Home - New Boston on Dec. 9, 2025.
Alexander Reid McKamie, 32, passed away on December 5, 2025. Born on November 27, 1993, Alex brought joy, laughter, and light into the world from the moment he learned to talk-and he never stopped sharing that light with the people he loved.
He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Tammy McKamie of Navarre, Florida; his siblings Justin (Muriel) McKamie of Maud, Texas, Robbie (Stacy) Witterstaetter of
New Boston, Texas, Mallory (Clint) Brooks of Redwater, Texas, and Scott Witterstaetter of Texarkana. He is also survived by his grandparents, Ruel and Monica McKamie of Conway, Arkansas, and Otis and Stella Scott of
New Boston, Texas.
Alex adored his nieces and nephews-Halle, Payton, Jaylon, Hunter, Laken, Claire, Adalynn, Macelyn, and Brantley-who brought him immeasurable pride and happiness. He leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, two lifelong friends who were like brothers to him: Chance Edwards and Clinton Ford, and his close friend from college, Kevin O'Loughlin & wife Jessica O'Loughin of Guyton, GA.
The baby of the family, Alex was lovingly spoiled by all who cherished him. His quick wit, humor, and natural comedic timing made him the life of every gathering, and his memory continues to bring smiles even in this time of great sorrow. He had big plans and was eagerly preparing to see his dreams come to life in the coming weeks. Alex was passionate about anything with a motor and could often be found with grease on his hands and a grin on his face on his good days.
He fought courageously through long seasons of pain and suffering, and while our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing he is now free from pain and resting safely in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has visited, brought food, offered help, or lifted them up in prayer. A special thank you goes to Ms. Terri Evans for opening her home and being an extraordinary source of support during this difficult time. Lori Wadding, who is very special to the family and spent numerous hours helping to find specialist around the country to help with Alex's condition. And our cousin, Mona, for being an absolute rock and incredible support throughout the years. Alex loved you all, very much.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Alex's own words, from his final Facebook post, show just how he lived his life and relied on faith even through his toughest trials:
"When someone tells you that you can't over come something that brings you to your knees just remember that when you are at that point an feel like everything is over never forget that while you are on your knees that prayer is the only thing that is going to keep you moving forward an also remember that you are not at a low point just because you are not standing you are actually at the highest point in your life because without God you will end up under the dirt and you will never stay strong without him an also remember that this world will always try to break you but there is nothing stronger than the shield of Jesus christ an I will be the first person to tell you that I would not be above dirt without him !!! I want to thank my family and friends for standing beside me through all of my health issues I love yall so much an can't thank yall enough!!! Without struggles an the test that life throws at you it makes you strong as iron so remember that it's actually a good thing that we get put through tuff times because you will cherish every good day and live your life with a smile on your face knowing that you won an you are never going to quit!! Ps you are never out of the fight" - Alex
