Gee, it appears Lex and I shared an experience of rafting the Colorado River through the Grand Caynon. Sure which I had known. It would have made a great conversation. Joan Canapp

I am so sorry to hear that Poppy has passed. I know he is in God's care now, back with his siblings, parents, friends and his son that was taken far too soon. He was such a kind, wise and funny man - I have so many fond memories of him running through my mind. I remember celebrating his birthday in 1992 and he joked about the large amount of candles looking like a torch and potentially being a fire hazard. In lower school he babysat for us, I had gotten in a fight with Alex and hit her. He told me firmly "You never hit a girl." We got a ping pong table for one Christmas, he alone came over to our house and helped us build it. One time he took me downtown on the Light Rail and the ticket machine had a separately priced child's fare, I was just above the age - we joked that on that day I was a year younger. We then went downtown on the train. The next day after school he had driven over to my house where he was waiting for me - he told me what he had done (buying the children's ticket) was wrong and he had purchased a full fair ticket for our prior day's train ride downtown. At the time I thought it wasn't necessary, I now understand he was a man of integrity. That lesson has stuck with me.
Around the the time of the financial crisis of 2008/09 he was confident that America would emerge from the challenge, and it did. He talked about FDR and how despite the rhetoric of the times, spring always follows winter. That taught me the importance of having an historical perspective, it gives us the optimism to pull through. He was a great model of integrity and genorosity that I was so fortunate to have in my life. I last saw him in July of 2016, he was not in the best of shape - I am so happy I could see him one last time. He had a world class smile. I know he is at peace now, I will miss him so much. I am so sorry Gam for your loss. In life we either leave a legacy or liability, Poppy left a massive legacy that will inspire me for the rest of my days.
Love,
Ian
