Alfred "Bud" Abbott

Alfred Abbott Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bosak Funeral Home - Stamford on Dec. 16, 2025.
Alfred (Bud) Abbott was born on April 7, 1930 and passed away on December 11, 2025.

It's hard to accurately portray the life of a legend, a giant, an original, but these mere words will have to do.

He was a hero to his family, his country and countless others. He changed the lives of many who needed a guiding hand, and was generous to a fault to family, friends and sometimes complete strangers. He was complicated, but full of love for life and people. He was a Marine, a survivor, but had a soft heart. He charmed every woman he ever met, whether they were 2 or 102, but his heart belonged to his beloved Eileen.

He came from nothing, and became a self-educated man who raised six kids who lacked for nothing, especially a father's love. He was extremely intelligent and knowledgeable on many topics, and loved to laugh, and tell stories, many of which his family has yet to determine the veracity of.

He was a warrior at heart, and his family suspects that he would describe his time in the military as the greatest time of his life.

He served in the Korean War and was severely wounded during an act of bravery for which he was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as a Fire Team Leader in Company F, Second Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division, during operations against an enemy aggressor.

He was Vice President of Stamford Insulation in Springdale for many years, and then joined Ring's End in Darien as a Kitchen Designer, retiring at 82.

Bud is predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Eileen Carrigan Abbott, and his son, Timothy Abbott. He leaves behind his children, Jonathan, Stephen, Christopher, Bridget and Colleen Abbott. In addition, he leaves behind his daughters-in-law Cathy (Baigert) Abbott, Noël (LaMotte) Abbott and Michele (Muller) Abbott and his grandchildren, Jason, Patrick, Meaghan, Charles, David, Timothy, Lukas and Katherine Abbott.

Visitation will be held at Bosak Funeral Home & Cremation, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, on Monday, December 22nd from 10am to 1pm. A Prayer Service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Queen of Peace Cemetery,124 Rock Rimmon Road, Stamford, CT

To all the Abbott family, I was so very saddened to hear of your dad's passing. He was an awesome role model to all of us on Regent Court/Dorset Lane! One story I'd like to share, which I am sure the Abbott boys remember, was a day when we were playing in the river behind your house (making a dam, I think) and a very upset neighbor from the other side of the river told us that we were trespassing on his property. Well, Mr. Abbott, who had heard the commotion, came over and in a very respectful manner told the older gentleman that the property was his across to the other side of the river. The man disagreed saying the property was his across to the other side of the river. They both said they had proof of this (the blueprint of the property lines, etc.). The next thing you know, I remember the two of them sharing a beer on the Abbott picnic table both laughing quite loudly. Guess what? Both blueprints had each of them owning the property across to the other side of the river. As little kids, we witnessed a wonderful role model showing us how to be respectful and diplomatic when handling an argument. Btw, the older gentleman would tell us we could play on the other side of the river any time we wanted. Mr. Abbott was a gentleman in every sense of the word. My sincerest condolences to all the Abbott family. Peace & love, Stephen Weiss

We will miss our annual Christmas card from Bud. Always addressed to "The beautiful Cindy and Ashley ladies"... "wishing you both a wonderful Christmas"... His beautiful handwriting at such an older age was so impeccable.
We wish you a wonderful Christmas, Dear Bud, wherever you may be. We will always keep you in our hearts.
Godspeed.
