Fred (Alfred) Almeida of Barrington, RI passed away on October 16, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was a long-time resident of Barrington.
He and Kathy, his wife of 48 years, started a business from scratch when Fred was 18. In the decade that followed, he was loaned some start-up money by a wealthy Newport client impressed by his intelligence, ambition and work ethic. That was the beginning of an incredible 40+ year run of building homes in the East Bay, exclusively in Barrington for the last 30 years. He will always be remembered as the man who offered advice and help when needed. He believed in paying it forward. In addition to home construction, he owned Barrington Self Storage and multiple other commercial properties in town. He along with his business partner, John DeAngelis owned Barrington Excavating.
Never one to consider retirement, he stayed thoroughly engaged in his various businesses after his cancer diagnosis in early 2021. Defying all predictions, he remained active for a full 3 years before feeling the effects of his illness. He took special joy in the lives of his two grandsons. He was able to enjoy the simple things - the love of his 2 sidekicks Rosie and Ozzy, who were always seen riding with him in his pickup truck. Fred enjoyed pool parties with his many friends, a spin in his McLaren, dinner and drinks with friends and family. It was a life well-lived.
Fred was the father of the late Adam Almeida of Barrington. He is survived by his wife Kathy Almeida of Barrington, his daughter-in-law Tiffany Almeida and his grandchildren Aiden and Mason Almeida of Bristol, RI.
Respecting the wishes of the family, arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Fred's memory to the Potter League for Animals in Middletown, RI.
