ALFRED JOHN BALERNA

BALERNA, Alfred John Of Dedham, originally of Roslindale, March 16, 2025. Devoted son of the late Marco and Mary (Brogna) Balerna, formerly of Roslindale. Loving father of Dianne (Schnee), Kristin (Wise), George, Jay, David and Kathy (DeLuca). Adoringly known as Grampa to 13 grandchildren and "GG" to four great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, John Balerna of Norwood; and many nieces and nephews. Al will forever be remembered for his generosity and his immense love for family. After graduating from college and serving in the army, Al rose to CEO and co-owner, with his employees, at Federal Distillers in Cambridge. He was inducted into Northeastern University's Hall of Fame in 1984, for his outstanding football and track careers. Al loved watching the Patriots and Bruins and made many great memories playing golf at Thorny Lea G.C. in Brockton. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 22, at 9AM, at St. Susanna Church, 262 Needham St., Dedham. Family and friends are invited. Visiting Hours are Saturday only, 8–9 AM, at St. Susanna Church. Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave., Boston. Many thanks to the VAMC for their extraordinary care.
