Alfred Cable Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 16, 2026.
Alfred "Al" Morris Cable was born on April 14, 1946, to Frank and Arlene Cable. After a courageous battle with cancer, Al passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Arlene Cable; his siblings, James, Bobby, Maxine, Mary, Myra, Norma, Larry, and Brenda; the mother of his children, Betty June Hensley; his loving partner of more than 20 years, Candy Cressel; his beloved grandson, Joseph Walter Kidwell; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends, including Dave Knotts.
Al leaves behind his four daughters, Allyson Starling (Randy), Julie Ellis (Gene), Amanda Johnson (Richard), and Anita Craighead (Rich). He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael Leonard, Christina Johnson, Elizabeth Eshelman, Kyle Leonard, Luke Leonard, Desiree Smallwood, Woody Dodson, Justin Braun, Danielle Cable, Brittany Cable, Jennifer Johnson, Richard Johnson Jr., Kaitlyn Sproles, and Joshua Craighead, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
He also held close to his heart Candy's children-John (Pokey), Brenda, Pat, and Donna-as well as her grandchildren, whom he loved as his own.
The family is especially grateful to Allyson, Julie, Gene, Kyle, and Luke for the care and support they provided during his final years.
Al often joked that he tried his hand at coal mining in West Virginia but quit after just two weeks. He later moved to Virginia, where he met Betty June Hensley. They were married in April 1966 and together had four daughters.
He began his working life as a mechanic alongside Bill Edwards, where he learned the trade that would define much of his life. He later spent the remainder of his working years at U-Haul until his retirement.
In the 1970s, Al moved to Front Royal, where he lived at Brinklows Trailer Park for many years. He fell in love with Candy Cressel with whom he spent 20 years together until her passing. He became known as the neighborhood mechanic-always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or fix what needed to be fixed.
Al found joy in the simple things. He loved fishing, shooting pool, and working in his garden. He had a quick wit, a ready joke, and a way of making people feel at ease. With a paintbrush in hand, he could bring new life to almost anything, and he believed that helping others was simply part of being human.
In 2019, Al moved to Strasburg to live with his daughter Allyson and her family, where he continued to make memories until his final day.
He is missed already.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Al's memory to Legacy Hospice 600 Pegasus Ct., Suite 100A, Winchester, VA 22602.
A service will be held at a later date.
