In Loving Memory of Alfred Joseph Choute

Alfred Joseph Choute passed away on August 23, 2025 at his home in Westbury, New York. Born on September 2, 1939, in Bourdon, Port-au-Prince in Haiti, he was the son of Altinor and Bonite.

Alfred immigrated to the United States in 1969, where he reunited with his wife, Marie Denise Lubin, who came to the country in 1968. He first made his home in Brooklyn, New York, until 1977, then moved to Queens to raise his family. In the late 80's he returned to Brooklyn, and in 2023 he settled in Westbury, New York.

Although trained as a mechanic in Haiti, Alfred chose the entrepreneurial path in 1977, partnering with John to start a company, through which they purchased two New York City taxi medallions. From March 1977 until his retirement in 2009, Alfred served as one of New York City's friendliest yellow taxicab drivers.

Alfred was intelligent, generous, inquisitive, and devoted to his family. He was kind to everyone he met and, as a lifelong learner, he loved a spirited debate, questioning the world around him and never taking anything at face value. His favorite pastime was playing dominoes (preferably winning), listening to music (preferably Haitian) and watching game shows (preferably The Price Is Right and Family Feud).

He is survived by Marie Denise Lubin, children Dominique, Denise, Edouard and Lisa; his grandson Jayden; his brothers Alphonse, Alberto and Alexis; his sister Ghislaine; and over 75 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Aldophe, Alexandre, Arnold, Alberic, Andre and Alix; and his sister Annette.

Alfred will be missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
