Alfred Lee Felder, 80, of Summit, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 in McComb. He was born Saturday, March 18, 1944 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Sharkey Funeral Home. Elder Al Felder & Bro. Danny Speed will officiate the services.
Alfred was the Valedictorian of the very first graduating class at North Pike High School. During his time at North Pike, he is credited as the originator of the school's mascot, the Jaguars. He married his high school sweetheart, Cherrie. Never able to get up the nerve to ask her out, Cherrie eventually took the initiative and invited him to a Valentine's Banquet at church.
After high school, Alfred went on to Southwest Mississippi Community College where he played Basketball. From there he went on to attend the University of Mississippi. He walked on as a Tennis player and was honored to be inducted into the Ole Miss Rebel M Club. He graduated from the University of Mississippi Law School in 1969 and also holds a Bachelor's Degree in English.
For over fifty years, Alfred practiced as an attorney, even up until the time of his recent illness. He owned his own practice in McComb, Felder Law Firm. There were many highlights to his fascinating career, including an interview with Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes back in the 1990's. Because of his intelligence and tenacity, several of his cases reached the Supreme Court, where he held an eighty percent success rate. One such case dealt with the Standard of Care in the healthcare system in Mississippi, which made an enormous impact on new laws within the state.
Alfred was adored by his grandchildren, and he had a fierce love for his family. He was famous for cooking his signature dishes like red beans and rice, garlic butter bread, and mushroom steak sauce. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
The family would like to acknowledge the many others that helped care for Alfred: Jodi Waller, FNP, Camelia Estates, and Dr. Brett Ferman, the SMRMC ER Department, and UMMC in Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his Father, John Clifton Felder, Sr.; his Mother, Louise Girling Felder; two Brothers, John Clifton Felder, Jr., Joe Girling Felder; one Sister, Jacquelyn Butler; one Son-in-law, Kenneth Mitchell Godwin; one Brother-in-law, Dr. Jimmy Butler; and one Sister-in-law, Carolyn Pine Felder.
